REHABILITATION OF ANIMALS FROM CIRCUSES

The Government of India has put a ban on performance of lion, tiger, panther, bear and monkeys by circuses. Consequent to the ban. These animals were to be rehabilitated by creating appropriate facilities to rehabilitate all these animals. The Central Government decided that rescue centers should be got created by the CZA in the off display area of the various zoos. Accordingly, the CZA has established five rescue Centers at the following Zoos:

  1. Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Chennai, Tamil Nadu
  2. Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh
  3. Sri Venkateshwara Zoological Garden, Tirupathi, Andhra Pradesh
  4. Bannerghatta National Park, Bangalore, Karnataka
  5. Nahargarh Biological Park, Jaipur, Rajasthan


    6. The details with respect capacity of the rescue center and the animals received by the centers from different circuses is given below:
